Green spaces, culture and cohesion: Turin invests in the future of Aurora and Barriera di Milano.
With a investment comprehensive of some 26 million of euros, financed through funds PNRR and PN Metro Plus, the city is preparing itself to give birth to a transformation of the space physical into a space of inclusion of high value environmental.
They call yet course Palermo’s “Rambla of Turin”, thanks to 400 new trees, pavements enlarged pavements, lighting scenography and one graffiti long two kilometres. But the intervention is only one part of complex programme of development urban which involves the neighbourhoods Aurora and Barriera of Milan. The strategic plan integrates interventions of redevelopment urban, policies of support for entrepreneurship and sustainable living, paths of inclusion social and employment in anarea that today suffers phenomena of degradation, illegality and marginality diffuse.
We have worked for eight months, from december by 2022; when we we are granted the assignment, by party of municipality of Turin, for the processing of Project of Territory for the two neighbourhoods, through paths of listening and co-designing that we have carried forwards in collaboration with AB City, Shared Urban Value-VUC and Project Area.
Results? More than 130 activities and projects in course mapped in context urban, 30 institutions and associations local and more of 300 girls and boys of schools involved to get to definition of ‘Project of Territory – PN Metro Plus Turin 2021-2027’.
With over 70. 000 inhabitants, the neighbourhoods of Aurora and Barriera of Milan present challenges significant: taxes of underemployment and incidence of NEET superior to average city, a strong demand of services social and a hope of life lower lower.
The programme integrated responds to these needs with interventions measures on four main axes:
- Interventions of regeneration on about 23,000 sqm. of arteries vehicle and space public to guarantee a major facibility also pedestrian and an improved resilience to changes climate thanks to projects of greening diffuse, sports facilities polifunctional facilities, parks schools, etc. ;
- Support to solutions of co-housing for young people with the involvement of market local
- Educational and cultural activities, with a estimate of seven interventions cultural funded per year;
- Services of accompanying to projects and coordination of actions on territory.
Throughout all the phases of project we have used a approach multidisciplinary which has integrated competencies urban planning, architectural, economic-financial, performing also an role of facilitation of conciliation of objectives and of the actions with the multiple sectors municipalities involved for the aspects social, technical and cultural. We have thus contributed to building a Project of Territory solid and consistent, which should start start already the next year to end in 2029.
The expected impacts do not only concern the transformation of two neighbourhoods, but the construction of a new model of an inclusive, sustainable and attractive city. With this project, Turin is betting on beauty, social innovation, community and environment.
